Creating A Cool Lighting Effect - By DeeZeL
Introduction: Aaaaaah..lights! God I love 'em, lol! Lighting effects are one of my favourite designing elements that gives lots of depth to your design or -- in general -- can do lots of amazing stuff to it. In this pretty easy tutorial you are to learn how to create this cool lighting effect, original purpose was to emulate water lighting for me, but I don't think I did it well. But anyways you are gonna like this one..ehm, hopefully =/!
1. Create a 800x600 new document file.
2. Use the gradient tool to fill it with any color you like, I used a #537481 (Some Greyish Cyan color) for my foreground color and a #000000 (Black) for the background color.
3. Now u should use any desaturated image to emulate the lighting; I used this image, you can use it for practice:

4. Go to 'Filter > Blur > Motion Blur' and use the following settings:

5. Press CTRL + A to select the whole canvas, CTRL + C to copy the image.
6. Go back to the document u created and press CTRL + V to paste it there, make sure that it is positioned right on top of the image.
7. Set the image mode to 'Soft light'
8. Go to 'Layer > Add mask > Reveal all' and click on the gradient tool, then use it to make the image fade in so that it perfectly blends with the design, I recommend pressing and holding the SHIFT key to get an accurate 90 degree gradient path.
9. Go to 'Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur' and mess around with the settings till you find something that suits ur taste.
That's it, you are pretty much done now, I have just applied some tech brushes I just downloaded and here's what I came up with:

You can also check this link to see an example where this technique is used
Thank you, I hope my tutirial was useful to you and God bless you all,
