The Republic of Code Forum is getting more active by the day and that is great. However, a lot of Flash and ActionScript questions are getting asked over and over again by new members and it is really boring for us to reply to the very same thing ten times a week.

A feature that can help us guide new members to the answers to their questions in old threads is by utlizing the barely used feature for tagging forum threads. We can use this feature to link threads about the same issue, tutorial, or error together. This way threads are linked using tags ensures that these topics are directly related because the tag is manual set by users and not automated on the mere existence of a term in that thread.

If you post a thread asking for help, please make sure that you tag your thread according to the guidelines mentioned below. This will link your thread to threads about the same topic. This will make it much easier for other users to find your thread if they need help regarding the same issue. You can also click on your own tags to check previously tagged threads while waiting for someone to respond to your thread – you might find the solution yiou need yourself.

If you would like to help another person, please tag the thread you respond to with the main keywords relating to your answer. Your helpful contribution could be found that way by many other members instead of limiting it to that single user you are replying to.

If you would like to tag any threads on the forum then please note the following guidelines:

All registered forum members can tag any thread whether started by them or by someone else. Don’t hesitate to tag a thread even if you did not start it or did not comment on it.
The forum requires separating your tags with a coma (,). Unlike delicious, separating tags with a space does not create individual tags, instead it creates a single long tag that doesn’t help much.
Each user can use up to five tags per thread.
DO NOT USE GENERIC TAGS SUCH AS ”problem, tutorial, error, or Flash”.
Please use instead descriptive tags that indicate the ActionScript versions, the classes or methods uses, the tutorial followed, and the error number. Example: “as2, interactive map, tween class” and “as3, grid image gallery, error #1006, navigate ToURL()“.
The tags are not case-sensitive.

Finally, the tagging field is located at the bottom of each thread between the final post on the page and the quick reply field.

Republic of Code New Logo Winner!

It was a tough decision to make among all the awesome logos which we received, but the members finally voted for the logo designed by Thishan Dissanayake to be the upcoming new logo for Republic of Code. Thishan will be sent an 8GB iPod nano as a prize for designing this logo. Thanks for everyone who participated, voted, and contributed in all sort of ways in making this competition a success.

We will try to update the website’s design and layout to integrate this new logo in the upcoming weeks.
