Palm Pre Gets Flash Player Adobe announced yesterday that it will release Flash Player 10 for the Palm Pre, Android platform, Symbian platform and Windows Mobile. The obvious missing one is the Apple iPhone, but the chances of that ever happening is getting slimmer by the day.

A lot of people are very excited about the Palm Pre and it is nice to hear that the full version of the Flash Player will be coming to it and not Flash Lite.  The main difference between Flash Player 10 and Flash Lite is that Flash Player 10 supports AS3 while Flash Lite 3.0 does not. Flash Player 10 is expected to be seen on all these devices early next year.

That is not to say that Flash movies will run perfectly now, in fact, I think that the majority won’t because of screen resolution issues and processing power required to render vector graphics and animations. However, having Flash player will at least allow people to navigate through websites that use Flash menus or buttons and will make it possible to view Flash video.

What is more exciting would be the ability of Flash developers to develop  games and applications for the Pre and Android using their existing skills.

Adobe also announced a new method for distributing Flash Lite player to devices that do not already have it. This means that old Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile devices will be able to install and upgrade their Flash Lite player over the air when they download a game or application. This however does not mean the new Flash Player 10 would be installed this way or would even support older Nokia or Windows Mobile devices.

Finally, Adobe also announced a US$10 million market development fund for creating applications using the Adobe Flash platform on Nokia devices. Interested developers can learn more about this here.
