We’re Back Online!

Oman3D Oman3D experienced a living nightmare this passing week due to the horrible service of 1and1. Some of you might have noticed that the website was down on Monday and Tuesday and that the forum remained locked until a couple of hours ago.

On Monday we received a letter from the abuse departmant of 1and1 because of an alleged spam complaint, in less than 10 minutes we received another email saying that they are locking up our server because of the massive number of complaints they are receiving. We do not use 1and1 to send any emails and our newsletter is managed by a third party (ConstantContact). I instantly tried calling up 1and1 but the customer service people told me that the abuse ‘department’ cannot be reached by phone and the only way to unlock the server is by responding to the email we received. I had to wait for 36 hours until the server was unlocked, I never received an email from 1and1 telling me why it got locked or who sent the complaint. I sent an email to the complaint department and they never replied back to me either.

I received an email from the abuse department today threatening to lock our server again because it was allegedly hacked and that I have to respond to their email and update all my scripts if I do not want them to lock it.

I do not care if a hacker was the reason why a complaint was sent in the first place, but nobody at 1and1 seems to want to talk to us and explain what is happening. I do not have respect for this company anymore and will never deal with them ever again. We moved Oman3D to Media Temple and we will never go back to 1and1. If you do not want to have your website shut for days with no warning and nobody to talk to get it back then make sure you stay away from 1and1.

We are sorry for locking the forum for a couple of days, we had to ensure that we move all the files to the new server before we start it again.

Sorry for this and hopefully it will not happen again.

I almost lost a client because of 1&1. His site wasn't working properly, and I sat next to him as it took 5 tries just to get a support rep on the phone. Once he did, the rep was someone in India who only read stock phrases from a script. Feh!
