Safari 3 Beta on Mac AND Windows

Safari 3 Beta on Mac AND Windows

Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, announced at WWDC07 earlier today, the upcoming release of Safari 3, the new version of Apple’s Internet browser, for both the Mac and Windows platforms. Apple’s strategy to increase Safari’s browser market share would be by bundling it with iTunes, the media player for managing the iPod and accessing the iTunes store.

Apple claims that Safari is faster than Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera in rendering HTML pages, running JavaScript, and launching applications.

Safari is known to have better support for web standards (such as CSS )than at least Internet Explorer, the browser with the largest market share and the greatest number of quirks and bugs. I’d welcome any better browser that could take any bite of IE’s share! You can download the Safari 3 beta here.

Urgh, I tried installing the beta of Safari 3 on two different computers running Window XP and could not get it to work on either. The first one showed the famous missing text problem and the second kept on crashing as soon as the application was launched. Since the release of the beta two days ago, people have been also reporting many other bugs and some security threads as well. We all know that this is a beta, but come on, this is way too much.
