Adobe Media Player

Adobe recently announced the Adobe Media Player, a desktop based video playback and feed subscription tool created using the Apollo platform. The Adobe Media Player extends the Flash platform by providing online and offline playback capability of the FLV video format that is widely spread on the wide. The player will also provide content distributors with Digital Rights Management (DRM) controls, advertising features for online and offline content, and some fancy branding features.

This Adobe Media Player was created using Apollo, the codename of Adobe’s new platform for creating multi-platform desktop applications that make use of various Adobe web technologies such as Flex, Flash, and ActionScript, all of which are already used for creating Rich Internet Applications (RIA) over the web. Apollo provides RIA developers with a solution for moving their applications from the web to the desktop for enhanced functionality and synchronization.

You can view a very interesting video demonstration of the Adobe Media Player here. A comprehensive article on the features of the player can be found on Read/WriteWeb.
