3D Studio Max 9 and Maya 8 Announced

Autodesk announced at Siggraph 2006 in Boston the latest updates to Maya 3D and 3D Studio Max. Both of these upgrades will be the first 64-bit versions of the applications and this should contribute to the enhancement of the performance and the speed of the rendering capabilities of both tools. 3D Studio Max 9 will include a set of new features including a new hidden-line display mode, support for layer animation, hair integration and the inclusion of version 3.5 of the mental ray rendering engine. Maya 8 will include an update to the UI which is supposed to make the program cleaner and easier to use, new modelling tools, new texturing tools, and version 3.5 of the metal ray rendering engine as well. 3D Studio Max 9 is expected to ship in October, while Maya 8 should be out within two weeks.
